Arrive at Leh airport, where you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Rest of the day free for acclimatization to the low oxygen levels at this high altitude. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Today is dedicated to explore the famous monasteries. Start with Shey Gompa, located 15 kilometers of Leh. Then, make your way to Thiksey Monastery located on a 4-minutes distance from Shey monastery. Visit Hemis Gompa, with its museum of precious statues, texts and relics brought here by Red Hat monks fleeing occupied Tibet over the high mountain passes. Later, return back to hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
After a very early breakfast, leave your hotel to hit leh’s most classic spot, Pangong Lake. Located at an elevation of 4,350 m (14,270 ft), the emerald green lake is the honey spot of this Himalayan desert. Drive along the Indus River towards Chang La pass at 17,350 ft. At last, return to hotel for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, you’ll be driven to visit Shanti Stupa which is located 5 kilometres from Leh – on a steep hill facing the Leh Palace. Located at a height of 3,609 (11,841 ft), the stupa was built in 1991 by Japanese Buddhist and enshrined by 14th Dalai Lama in 1985. It’s a two level structure imposing the grand tradition of Tibetan architecture. Spend a day here enjoying birds’-eye view of the town. Later, return back for dinner and overnight stay.
After breakfast, today’s excursion will begin and take you to world’s highest motorable road, Khardung-la mountain pass. Located at an elevation of 5,359 meters (18,380 ft), a ride to reach the pass is itself an exhilarating adventure and its worth when you get a chance to witness magnificent expanse of valley, nestled between the Himalayas to the south and the Karakorams to the north. Dinner & Overnight stay at the hotel.
After breakfast, your guide will take you to the airport to board flight back to home.
